Abstract

This thesis is the result of an ethnographic study conducted in a free, outpatient medical center in downtown Paris called the Parmentier House. This center is part of the French Nongovernmental organization Médecins du Monde, which conducts humanitarian assistance missions abroad. The NGO has decided to also work in France, because it recognizes that portions of the local population are isolated from and lack health care. The study outlines the need for a comprehensive understanding of health practices and the social representations shared by the protagonists. This fosters specific interactions between patients and assistants. A set of analyses was developed that mirror each another in a cognitive and emotional perspective. They enroll the perception of the other, whether originating from a national or economic framework. This study focuses on the relationship between the attending and attended parties in humanitarian outpatient healthcare for the impoverished.

Resumo

O presente artigo é resultado de uma pesquisa etnográfica realizada em um centro de saúde gratuito em Paris, o centro Parmentier, pertencente a ONG de caráter humanitário, Médecins du Monde. Tal organização, consagrada por suas missões em países estrangeiros, inicia uma missão na França em um contexto de urgência face às situações de pessoas excluídas de atendimento de saúde público. Este trabalho busca uma compreensão das práticas relacionadas à assistência médica e social como também pelas representações partilhadas entre os atores, pacientes e voluntários, criadas por condições especiais de interação. Tais interações estão situadas em um jogo de ordem cognitiva e afetiva onde se inscreve a percepção do Outro dependente tanto de sua situação econômica ou de sua nacionalidade. Por outro lado, este trabalho analisa particularmente a relação entre médicos / pacientes em um contexto de assistência médica humanitária dirigidos a uma população vivendo em exclusão social.
